Paul Turner - Bio
Paul Turner has been actively engaged in the television industry for over 35 years, focusing on developing new technologies into products which fit the needs of end customers world-wide. In the recent past, Paul’s focus has been on hardware and software systems which make use of the many digital formats now available to the industry, serving as the central liaison point for a number of vendors into standards and industry bodies such as SMPTE and AMWA (where he served for several years as a member of the board of directors).

Paul started his career as a studio design engineer at the BBC, and since that time has held engineering and senior management positions both in the USA and the UK at the Grass Valley Group, including Abekas Video Systems, Scitex Digital Video, Sony Electronics, Pinnacle Systems, Omneon Video Networks and Harmonic. Most recently, Paul was Vice President of Enterprise Product Management at Telestream. He has recently started his own consultancy business, offering consulting services on a wide variety of topics to customers around the world. Paul has published over a dozen technical papers on a variety of industry topics, and has presented at conferences and exhibitions around the globe.

With Product Management, Product Marketing and Project Management as his core strengths, Paul’s touch has been applied to topics varying from recording and playback, through switching and special effects, graphics, servers (production, playout and bulk media), transcoding and workflow automation through to web technologies and streaming.

The following is a list of his most recent positions:

Vice President, Enterprise Product Management—Telestream LLC:
Responsible for Marketing, product planning and partner management. Responsibility for Telestream’s Enterprise product line, managing a team of 10 product managers. Organized team around diverse market segments and customer use cases, rather than product. Successfully introduced new product lines into the Telestream portfolio. Involved in 4 successful company acquisitions, which helped grow the company via inorganic means.
Vice President, Broadcast Market Development—Harmonic Inc:
Responsible for managing relationships with approximately 80 partner companies. The target was to create preference in those partners for working with Harmonic, and therefore drive sales through influence to a run rate of more than $3million per year – a record for the company. Increased market awareness through presentation of whitepapers and authoring articles for several trade magazines.
Vice President, Broadcast Market Development—Omneon Inc:
Appointed to a newly-created position by senior VP of products. Marketing, product planning and partner management responsibility for Omneon’s $90+M product line. Activities resulted in significant improvements in customer satisfaction and overall product quality
Vice President, Product Management—Omneon Inc:
Responsible for a team of highly focused product managers, directly influencing growth of the product line. Drove restructuring of product management organization around customer workflow, focusing group on complete solutions rather than point products Directly involved in capture of several key accounts and deals including TBS, Discovery Channel and Ascent Media
Director of Product Marketing—Pinnacle Systems:
Directly responsible for bringing several new products (inluding Still Sotres, Graphics Servers and Production Switchers) to market, from initial concept to released product. These products brought Pinnacle into new markets, and generated over $25M in additional revenues across all markets
Director, Non-linear systems – Sony Electronics:
Responsible for product strategy for all non-linear products for Sony in North America. Prepared strategy documents for non-linear products, invited to present them directly to Sony division president. Presentations were so successful, that the documents were translated into Japanese and distributed throughout Sony
